MOURNING COUNTRY (2021)

Noel Butler, a Budawang Elder from the Yuin nation, stands on the ashes of his property after the devastating Currowan fire. It’s not the buildings he mourns, but the ecosystem that’s been lost. The small pocket of Australia that he has worked so hard to protect and use for education on traditional knowledge, has been overrun, not by fire, but by greed and lack of proper management of the entire nation. This is a personal experience that is shared Australia wide, not just from the fires, but from the loss of diversity, dryness of the rivers and the destruction of the land.
